Political correctness in the UK
Living abroad I visit the UK once a year during the school holidays with the family. This year has shocked me in terms of excessive PC in my opinion.

3 examples:

1. Walked into our London office on Monday and there are Pride flags everywhere.

2. Voice over person on Channel 4 had a speech defect.

3. Weather girl on BBC News this morning had one arm.

What have you witnessed?

I think what Lovejoy is not so eloquantly trying to say, is that although diversity has rightly become prominent in our society, it's now got to the point where being normal has become weird.

1. Heterosexuals dont feel the need to march and tell the world how proud they are that they like having sex with people of the opposite sex, so why should gay people feel the need? Is it just a form of attention seeking?

2. Is the voice over person the best person for the job, or has he/she got the job just because he/she has an infliction? Is that not patronising?

3. You would have thought a one armed girl would have less success in pointing to various locations on a map. What is a watcher was hard of hearing, or even deaf, they wouldnt have a clue whats going on.

'Dr. Who’s a woman'

We've had about 8 series of Vera as a woman. There's no reason whatsoever why she can't have a sex change and do the next series as a man. It's only fair. Boys need positive role models too.

The weather girl worked hard and did well to get where she is. Her careers advisor kept trying to pigeonhole her into a line of work she seemed fit for, but had no interest in. It's in her biography on wiki where she says "I wanted more than to simply listen to my careers advisor and spend the rest of my working life as an organic fruit machine."

I wouldn't mind sitting next to that lovely one armed weather girl on a plane.... Much more room with the arm rest!

Re: Political correctness in the UK
I don't see many weather presenters using two hands to point, so I can't see why she shouldn't do the job if she is the best candidate.

The speech defect continuity announcer is hilarious, I'm afraid. Absolute and ostentatious tokenism and an affront to better qualified people.

Surface. Sorry mate. Not a clue who Vera is and I don’t watch Dr Who. The comment just seemed to fit the post.

Weather presenters haven’t pointed with a STICK for a long time
Basically because of all the graphics they use they don’t really need someone to stand there.
Same with newsreaders
None of them actually need to appear

I’d love to be the one to tell that pompous Huw Edwards that
